On Thursday, December 6, more than 130 members and guests gathered to enjoy the annual Impact100 Sonoma Holiday Reception at the Sonoma Golf and Country Club. It proved to be a wonderful time to share conversations and to learn a little more about the organization.
After a welcome from Impact100 member Celia Canfield, President B.J. Bischoff described the simplicity of Impact100 Sonoma – “You each give $1,000. We pool it together. We make an impact.” She reminded us that in 2009, our first year, we had 110 members; in year two – 157; in year three – 195; and at that very moment, our membership was at 180, which would mean that in only four years, we will have given $642,000 to Sonoma Valley nonprofits. By the end of the evening, our membership had increased to 192 women!
The program continued with presentations from our two $100,000 Impact grant runners-up from last year: Kathy Witkowicki, speaking on behalf of the Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance (SVMA), and Kathy Swett from the Sonoma Community Center (SCC). As runners-up, each received a grant of $13,375. They were asked to share how those funds have made an impact on their organizations and to talk about their volunteer needs.
Kat Forsythe, Impact 100 member, then spoke about the strength of our women’s giving circle, which was later described by V.P. of Grants Constance Grizzell as “power angels” – women who make things happen.
