A new “home” for the Bookmobile!

bookmobile4The Free Bookmobile is now protected from the elements!  Our beautiful new vehicle shelter was recently installed at our home base and is keeping both rain and sun off of our roof.  It will also do a great job of protecting the custom mural that adorns the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Each month we perform outreach to Kenwood, Glen Ellen, and Boyes Hot Springs.  We additionally schedule full-day services to the valley, the most recent of which on January 13 involved visits to the new Flowery Preschool, Oak Ridge Senior Apartments, and Hanna Boys Center.  We were also delighted to recently drop off more than 200 brand new Spanish-language sticker storybooks to Sonoma Valley Community Health Center to give to their young patients.  Other locations we serve include La Luz Center, Boys & Girls Clubs at Maxwell Farms, Sassarini, Altimira and Dunbar Schools, Valley of the Moon Teen Center, Sonoma Overnight Support Haven Shelter, El Verano Preschool, and Sonoma Child Development Center.

Thanks to Impact100 Sonoma assistance, we reached 1,697 valley residents this past year, of which 386 were 0-5 year-olds, and 261 were seniors.  All these folks got to come on board the bookmobile and choose up to three titles to take home and keep – a total of 4,412 high quality books into new homes!

In the words of one Bookmobile patron: Thank you for your books.  The one about how to raise a child has really made a difference in my life!

On behalf of all we serve in the Sonoma Valley, thank you for this gift of long life for the Free Bookmobile.
