The Lovin’ Oven caters Impact100 Sonoma Annual Meeting

Ariana Ocegura, Cristin Lawrence, Sofia Sanchez and Rosy Mena-Conrriquez prepare to serve appetizers.

Following presentations by the three finalists vying for the $100,000 Impact Grant, members cast their votes and then joined other guests in the courtyard of Hanna Boys Center for a wonderful reception.

Delicious appetizers were prepared by the boys and girls from Sonoma Valley Teen Service’s Lovin’ Oven program, under the guidance of Impact100 member Georganne Papac and “Guest Chef” Susan Whitney.  Wines were provided by Madrone Ridge and Charles Creek wineries, and Gary Edwards of Carneros Caves donated cheese that was incorporated into the menu.

The SVTS teens passed among the guests with trays of hors d’oeuvres that initiated both smiles and conversations and were a welcome distraction they awaited the voting results.

The Lovin’ Oven has become known for the their tasty treats that they create and sell as well as for the professional event service the group provides at local events and private parties. Catering has become an integral part of the Lovin’ Oven program.  Selling almost 100 pies at Thanksgiving out of the Valley of the Moon Teen Center’s commercial kitchen and more recently, working alongside Chef Rich Treglia to prepare and serve a three-course meal to 200 guests at the 2013 Home Winemakers Banquet, the Lovin’ Oven Program provides at-risk teens the opportunity to gain skills, make connections, build confidence and earn a little money.

048_Impact100.mmThe Lovin’ Oven is a part of Sonoma Valley Teen Service’s Skills for Life program that came to fruition when SVTS was awarded the $100,000 Impact Grant in 2011.  Through the Skills for Life program, teens learn how to keep commitments and be on time. They develop a sense of teamwork and cooperation with others. They learn how to dress and to relate to adults and generally how to engage in meaningful activities for their own welfare.
